CryptoGrid is an independent UK reference for cryptocurrency mining economics, tax and network data. It exists because most calculators aimed at UK users are affiliate funnels — the numbers are arranged to make a particular exchange, rig or energy tariff look good.
Everything here is calculated from public data in your own browser. There is no backend and no API key: the pages call public, CORS-enabled endpoints directly. The methodology page names every source and sets out every formula, so you can check the arithmetic rather than take our word for it.
CryptoGrid takes no affiliate commission from exchanges, hardware vendors, energy suppliers or custody providers. There are no referral links anywhere on this site, and no company has paid for coverage, placement or a favourable comparison. The calculator's answer is the same whoever it disappoints.
The site carries advertising through Google AdSense, which is how it pays for itself. Advertisers have no input into what we publish and no advance sight of it.
CryptoGrid is written and run by Neil McDonald, independently, in the UK. It has no corporate owner, no investors, and no commercial relationship with any company it writes about.
I am not an accountant, a tax adviser or a financial adviser, and nothing here is regulated advice. I build and run small independent websites, and CryptoGrid came out of trying to answer my own questions about UK mining economics and crypto tax and finding that almost everything available was either an affiliate funnel or written for an American reader.
What I can offer is the working. Every figure on this site has its formula, its constants and its primary source set out on the methodology page — HMRC's Cryptoassets Manual for tax, the Octopus Energy public API for electricity, the chains' own endpoints for network data. You are meant to check it rather than trust me, and I would rather be corrected than be wrong quietly.
